Meet Your Favorite Local Author on Saturday, May 3, 2025, and Support Lawrence Public Library’s Friends & Foundation and Lead to Read

‘LAWRENCE, KS — Book lovers from the Lawrence, Topeka, and Kansas City Metro regions are invited to meet their favorite local author or illustrator at the “2025 Local Author Salute” on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:30 am to 1 pm at Crown Automotive, 3430 Iowa in Lawrence. The event benefits the Lawrence Public Library Friends & Foundation and Lead to Read. There is also a special option to receive a FREE book from your favorite adult or children’s book author!

 “This is a wonderful way for us to recognize the achievements and talents of our local authors and illustrators,” said Kathleen Morgan, executive director of the Friends & Foundation. “We’ve partnered with our friends at Crown Automotive and local retailers to also give book lovers an option to receive a free book on the day of the event.”

“Book lovers can pick up a free ‘Crown Coin’ at our Toyota and Volkswagen locations here in Lawrence. Free coins are also available at Lawrence Public Library, and several Lawrence retailers,” said Miles Schnaer of Crown Automotive. “Attendees can bring the coin to the event, receive a free book from one of the featured local authors, and even get it autographed.”

“This will be a wonderful event supporting local literacy initiatives. Attendees can also visit Dottie, Lawrence Public Library’s bookmobile, at the Local Author Salute and check out library books and movies,” said Morgan.

Crown Coins may be redeemed on the day of the event only. One free book per person. No purchase necessary. Quantities are limited. Additional books can be purchased on the day of the event. Book sales benefit the Lawrence Public Library Friends & Foundation and Lead to Read. In Lawrence, you may get your free “Crown Coin” at Crown Automotive, Lawrence Public Library, 23rd Street Brewery, Kizer Cummings Jewelry, Cork & Barrel, and Wine Dive Kitchen.
