by Travis Releford with Matt Fulks
Travis Releford went to the University of Kansas as a highly-touted basketball recruit out of the Kansas City area. After being the odd man out during his freshman season, Releford accepted a redshirt during his second year. For the next three seasons, Releford became the player that everyone anticipated him being: a gritty defensive specialist who could carry the Jayhawks when needed. He became so valuable by the end of his senior year that coach Bill Self called Releford the "rock" of the Jayhawks. Following his senior year, Releford was a second team All-Big 12 performer and selected as a member of the Big 12's All-Defensive Team. Releford is currently pursuing a professional basketball career in Belgium.
Matt Fulks, who grew up in the Kansas City area, began his journalism career at Lipscomb University after his baseball career was cut short due to a lack of ability. He's the author/co-author of nearly 20 books, including For Jayhawks Fans Only and A Good Place to Stop (with Max Falkenstien). He lives in the Kansas City area with his wife Libby, their three kids and a Weimeraner named after Elvis. Sort of.
